Your Body Is a Sermon
The Importance of Health Ministries
“Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you… For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19–20
Our bodies preach a sermon every day. Through our lifestyle, habits, choices, and treatment of ourselves, we communicate something about our relationship with God. Health Ministries is not simply about preventing disease or encouraging healthy eating. It is about restoring God’s image in humanity and preparing individuals to live healthier, more purposeful lives in service to Him.
Here are three essential truths:
- THE TEMPLE — Our Bodies Belong to God.
Our bodies are not merely biological structures; they are temples of the Holy Spirit. God designed us for His presence, and caring for our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being is an expression of reverence for our Creator. Health Ministries reminds us that caring for the body is a sacred responsibility, not an optional lifestyle choice.
- THE TRANSACTION — We Were Bought With a Price.
Christ’s sacrifice establishes God’s ownership of our lives. Therefore, how we eat, sleep, exercise, manage stress, and practice temperance matters. Healthy living becomes an act of worship and gratitude. Through education, prevention, and compassionate support, Health Ministries equips individuals to become faithful stewards of the life God has entrusted to them.
- THE TESTIMONY — Our Health Becomes a Witness.
A healthy lifestyle strengthens our capacity to think clearly, serve faithfully, nurture relationships, and participate in God’s mission. Our health practices can become powerful testimonies of God’s transforming grace.
Health Ministries must therefore extend beyond the walls of our churches, reaching families and communities through health education, screenings, mental health awareness, and practical acts of compassion.
Our invitation is simple: Let us make health a ministry, wellness a lifestyle, and our bodies living sermons that glorify God.
Remember, your body is preaching every day. What sermon is it delivering?
