Bethesda Medical Mission Takes Help & Hope to St. James, Jamaica

On August 9, 2026, forty-one volunteers from Bethesda Medical Mission (BMM) traveled to the parish of St. James, Jamaica, to provide comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and spiritual care to individuals affected by Hurricane Melissa.

From August 10-15, this team of 10 physicians, 2 dentists, a dental hygienist, 8 nurses, and 20 support staff members, delivered compassionate care to more than 1,200 individuals. Services included primary medical care, pediatric, obstetrician-gynecologist, psychiatric, dental services, and vision care, including cataract surgery, and complimentary prescription eyeglasses. Patients also had daily access to a prayer station, where they received encouragement, prayer, and spiritual support. This five-day outreach was executed in collaboration with the West Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, Mount Carey Seventh-day Adventist Church, and Cornwall Regional Hospital.

Residents shared their heartfelt appreciation for the care they received, and the BMM volunteers expressed deep fulfillment from the opportunity to serve and give back.

Dr. Roy Kellerman, Sr. MD, Co-Founder/Director of BMM, said that the trip was more than a providing medical assistance to individuals. “To our medical team, this outreach exceeded basic clinical intervention; it allowed us to follow the ministry of Christ by addressing immediate physical suffering while creating a pathway to offer spiritual encouragement and eternal hope,” Kellerman said.

Through the combined efforts of healthcare professionals, church members, community partners, and volunteers, Bethesda Medical Mission once again demonstrated that compassionate service can be a powerful expression of God’s love.
