NEC Adventist Community Services Disaster Response Issues Urgent Call to Prayer and Support as Hurricane Melissa Threatens the Caribbean.
The Northeastern Conference Adventist Community Services Disaster Response (NECACSDR) is closely monitoring the imminent landfall of Hurricane Melissa, a powerful hurricane projected to bring catastrophic and life-threatening impacts to Jamaica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. Forecasts indicate severe flooding, infrastructure damage, mass displacement, a potential loss of life, and a humanitarian crisis across the Northern Caribbean region.
In preparation for this unfolding disaster, the NEC ACS DR leadership, on behalf of the NEC Administration, has made direct contact with pastoral leaders in the affected territories, including Pastor Wenford Henry, ADRA Director for the Jamaican Union and Pastor Jean-Phillipe Extrat, President of the Seventh-day Adventist Union in Haiti. Both leaders have expressed grave concern for the safety of our brothers and sisters, as well as for the millions of vulnerable residents who will be impacted by this storm.
“This is a moment for urgent prayer and compassionate action,” said Dr. Eldeen King, President of the NEC in Jamaica, NY. “We are asking every member, congregation, and Christian to intercede to the Lord on behalf of those in harm’s way and to ask God, ‘Lord, what would You have me do to help?’”
Call to Action
NEC ACS DR is ready to mobilize our resources and coordinate with ADRA International and its humanitarian network to help. I encourage our pastors to support the ACS’s call to action for immediate support in the form of:
What You Can Do Right Now
Pray earnestly and continuously for the people of Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti.
Give generously to NEC ACS Disaster Response designated hurricane relief funds.
Prepare to serve, as God impresses your heart and opens doors of opportunity to bring hope and healing.
As this crisis unfolds, NEC ACS DR will continue to provide updates and guidance. We are committed to standing with our Caribbean brothers and sisters through the hurricane and throughout the recovery process that will follow.
A Prayerful Appeal
In moments like these, we are reminded that “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1). We urge every member and friend of the Northeastern Conference to unite in prayer, asking God not only for deliverance, but for clarity in how we may be His hands and feet in this moment of urgent need.
