Hartford, CT — February 15, 2026 — The Elevate Leadership Summit officially commenced at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, Connecticut, marking the beginning of a transformative gathering for ministry leaders across the region.
Nearly 1,000 attendees registered on the first day of the summit, representing churches throughout the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. Leaders, ministry teams, and church members assembled with a shared commitment to growth, excellence, and collaborative service.
Participants engaged in dynamic and informative workshops designed to strengthen every area of ministry. Sessions addressed practical leadership strategies, innovative ministry approaches, and collaborative solutions to equip churches for greater impact in their communities.
The atmosphere throughout the convention center was marked by enthusiasm, purpose, and anticipation. With strong attendance and meaningful engagement from the outset, the Summit is off to an exceptional start.
Keynote speaker Dr. James Doggette Jr., Vice President for Enrollment Management at Oakwood University, spoke about recognizing God’s power over leaders. Doggette anchored his message, entitled “Return to Sender,” in 1 Samuel 13, which describes King Saul’s descent from being favored by God to being swiftly replaced by David.
Doggette explained to attendees that the leadership positions they hold within the conference or churches are ‘God’s position, not theirs.’ “Before you can elevate, you have to be anointed,” he said.
Even after being anointed king, Doggette explained that David faced accusations, low expectations, and the pressure of limitations from those around him, including Saul. Doggette pointed out that even when God appoints leaders, the devil will fight against the anointing. Just as David trusted in the Lord to guide his leadership, Doggette called Northeastern Conference leaders to trust God and keep Him before them in their own leadership. “When I’m on the side of God, the devil can’t help but talk about me,” Doggette said. “Because I’m giving him a black eye every day.”
As the week continues, organizers and attendees alike look forward to further opportunities for learning, connection, and spiritual renewal.
